The project: launch a complete business, not a collection of accounts

Altona Secure Storage needed a professional digital foundation that could support customers from its first day online and remain manageable as the business grows. That meant creating more than a website. The business needed control of its domain, professional communication, shared files, secure device access, a verified Google presence and visibility into how people find the site.

The risk in a project like this is fragmentation. A registrar can sell the domain, a web designer can build the site, Microsoft can supply licences and an IT company can protect the device, but the owner is left coordinating the connections between them. setmeup. treated the work as one launch plan so every component had a clear owner, purpose and dependency.

setmeup. handles the digital and technology side of a new-business launch. We do not provide legal, accounting, ASIC registration or business-structure advice. Those decisions should be made with appropriately qualified advisers.

What was included in the Altona Secure Storage setup

The project brought the customer-facing and internal parts of the business together. Each service was configured with the next one in mind instead of being delivered as an isolated product.

1. A business domain with clear ownership

The domain is the common foundation beneath the website, professional email and many verification records. Altona Secure Storage's domain and DNS hosting were placed with BITS Melbourne, the parent company of setmeup., so the technical records could be managed alongside the wider business setup.

This made it possible to coordinate website routing, email authentication and Google verification without asking the customer to translate instructions between several suppliers. It also gave the business a clear path for future changes and support.

Our business domain setup service follows the same principle: the domain should be treated as a valuable business asset, kept under appropriate business control and documented so ownership does not become uncertain later.

2. A website designed around customer decisions

The Altona Secure Storage website was created to explain the service clearly, establish trust and make it easy for prospective customers to take the next step. Its domain, enquiry pathways and public business information were coordinated with the systems behind the site.

A new website is most useful when it is part of the operational setup. Form notifications need to arrive in a monitored business mailbox. Contact details should match the Google Business Profile. Search engines need a crawlable structure, accurate metadata and a sitemap. Analytics should be established before useful launch data is lost.

These are standard considerations in our small business website design service. The aim is not simply to publish pages, but to create a customer-facing system that is connected to the way the business communicates and follows up enquiries.

3. A Microsoft 365 tenant built for the business

setmeup. created a dedicated Microsoft 365 tenant and selected licences that give the business access to the Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Word and Excel. The environment belongs to the business and provides a structured foundation for users, email, files and future growth.

Microsoft's current Microsoft 365 Business Standard information includes desktop, web and mobile Office applications, business email, Teams and 1 TB of OneDrive cloud storage per licensed user. Rather than purchasing licences first and working out the structure later, the Altona Secure Storage setup was planned around how the business would actually work.

Our Microsoft 365 setup service includes the decisions that sit behind the subscription: tenant ownership, administrator access, users, suitable licences, business email, collaboration, security and recovery.

4. Teams and SharePoint as the main collaboration workspace

Microsoft Teams and SharePoint were configured as the main collaboration tools. Teams gives the business a familiar place to communicate and reach shared resources, while SharePoint provides the underlying structure for files that belong to the organisation rather than one person's account.

This distinction matters from the beginning. OneDrive is well suited to an individual's work files and provides 1 TB of cloud storage per licensed user in the selected plan. Shared operational documents, procedures and business records are better placed in a deliberate SharePoint structure where access can be managed as the team changes.

Starting with a simple, agreed structure helps prevent documents being scattered across personal desktops, email attachments and unrelated consumer storage accounts. It also makes the eventual onboarding of another staff member much easier.

5. Professional email and the Office applications

The Microsoft 365 licences allow Altona Secure Storage to use Outlook for professional communication and the full Office applications such as Word and Excel for day-to-day business work. The domain, tenant and mail flow were considered together so the business identity remains consistent.

A professional mailbox is only the visible part of the setup. Behind it sit the DNS records used for email routing and authentication, multi-factor authentication, administrator access and recovery methods. Our business email setup service covers those less visible details as well as the mailbox itself.

This gives the customer one coherent environment for email, calendars, documents, spreadsheets, shared files and collaboration instead of a mixture of personal accounts and disconnected subscriptions.

6. A Microsoft Entra joined and secured laptop

The customer's work laptop was joined to Microsoft Entra ID and configured with secure business policies. The user can sign in with the organisation's identity, while the device becomes part of the business environment rather than remaining an unmanaged personal-style computer.

Microsoft explains that Entra joined devices can use organisational accounts for sign-in, support single sign-on and have access controlled through identity and device policies. Depending on the licences and management tools selected, administrators can apply requirements covering areas such as encryption, passwords, applications and updates.

The practical benefit is consistency. Important business access is linked to the organisation's identity, and security decisions can be managed deliberately instead of relying on whatever settings happened to be enabled when the laptop was first opened.

7. A verified Google Business Profile

setmeup. created the Altona Secure Storage Google Business Profile, verified the business and its address, and aligned the listing with the website. This gives prospective customers a consistent set of business information when they find the company through Google Search or Maps.

Verification is important because it confirms that the business is authorised to manage the profile. Google determines the available verification method for each business, so it should be planned as part of the launch rather than left until every other task is complete.

The work continues after verification. setmeup. prepares useful Google Business Profile updates and images for the customer, helping the profile stay current and giving people more reasons to visit relevant pages on the website. Posts do not guarantee rankings, but they support a complete and active customer presence.

8. Google Search Console and search measurement

Google Search Console was configured for the website so the business can monitor how Google discovers, crawls and indexes its pages. It provides search-performance information such as queries, impressions, clicks and the pages appearing in results.

This creates a reliable starting point for ongoing improvement. Instead of guessing what customers search for, the business can gradually use real data to refine service pages, answer common questions and publish useful content.

Search Console is not a shortcut to instant rankings. It is the measurement layer that helps the website owner identify technical issues and understand organic search visibility over time. That is why we establish it as part of the website foundation rather than treating it as an optional afterthought.

9. Security and backup delivered with BITS Melbourne

setmeup. teamed up with parent company BITS Melbourne for the ongoing IT security side of the launch. The protection includes email and website filtering, device endpoint security and backups.

This partnership connects the customer-facing launch with the controls that protect the systems behind it. Filtering helps reduce exposure to malicious email and unsafe websites. Endpoint security protects the laptop itself. Backups provide another recovery path for important information if data is deleted, damaged or affected by an account incident.

Our small business cybersecurity and business cloud backup pages explain why these controls should begin with the business rather than being added only after a security scare.

Why the connected approach was more efficient

Altona Secure Storage did not have to manage separate technical conversations about the domain, DNS, website, Microsoft 365, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, laptop, Google profile, Search Console, filtering, endpoint protection and backup. The requirements were gathered once and the dependencies were coordinated through setmeup. and BITS Melbourne.

That reduced duplicated work and made the connections easier to test. The same business details could be applied consistently across the website and Google profile. The domain records could account for both web and email services. The Microsoft identities, licences, collaboration tools and laptop could be planned as one environment.

Most importantly, the finished setup belongs to the business. The accounts and services are structured so Altona Secure Storage can keep operating, add users and receive support without having to rebuild the foundation.

  • One coordinated discovery process
  • One consistent set of business information
  • A logical sequence for domain, email, website and verification
  • Security included during the launch
  • Fewer supplier handoffs and less duplicated explanation
  • A clear path for ongoing support and future growth

What other new businesses can learn from this project

The individual products were important, but the lasting value came from the way they were connected. A new business does not need every available technology. It needs the right few systems, configured under business ownership and organised around how customers and staff will actually use them.

Begin with the customer journey and the business workflow. Decide how customers will find you, how enquiries will arrive, who needs access, where shared files should live and what must be recoverable. Then select the domain, website, licences, devices and security controls that support those answers.

Our new business launch timeline guide explains the order in more detail, while the complete online setup checklist covers each digital foundation.

Common questions about complete new business setup

Can setmeup. create the website and Microsoft 365 together?+

Yes. Planning the domain, website, professional email, Microsoft 365 and DNS together reduces handoffs and helps the services work as one business environment.

Why use Teams and SharePoint for a new business?+

Teams provides a central collaboration experience, while SharePoint gives shared business files a structured home with managed access. Establishing that structure early makes growth and staff onboarding easier.

What does Microsoft Entra joined mean?+

It means the work device is joined to the organisation's Microsoft Entra ID and can use the business identity for sign-in and access. Suitable security and device policies can then be applied around the business's requirements.

Does each Microsoft 365 user receive OneDrive storage?+

The plan selected for Altona Secure Storage includes 1 TB of OneDrive cloud storage per licensed user. Available features depend on the Microsoft 365 plan chosen for each business.

Can setmeup. create and verify a Google Business Profile?+

We can prepare the profile, business information, website connection, images and updates, then guide or assist with the verification method Google makes available to the business.

Who provides the ongoing IT security?+

For Altona Secure Storage, setmeup. works with parent company BITS Melbourne, which provides email and website filtering, endpoint security and backups.
